Sleaze's chart for January 2008 was just put up on Beatport... This month I took on the responsibility of compiling the chart...

For some reason I can't get the beatport player to work in LiveJournal... but you can see what's on it here:

6:47 pm - to add to that last comment
Three best pop albums of the year according to Spiggy:

#3 - Calvin Harris - I Created Disco --- the whole album's a ton of fun... although admittedly some of it does get repetitive... but tracks like Canned Heat and The Girls just make it all worth while
#2 - Chromeo - Fancy Footwork -- She's In Control was a brilliant debut album... their second album was even better... plus they're just a ton of fun, be it on stage or in interviews... or even their videos (the Bonafied Lovin video is great in all of it's "Money For Nothing" referencing glory)

and #1 - Dragonette - Galore -- This album only missteps once. Otherwise it's a near perfect bit of pop music that manages to sound retro while still sounding current.. I had been sweating them for so long before the album was released I was almost afraid it would be disappointing... but it delivered more than I could have hoped... I can't recommend this album to people enough.

And the year's biggest disappointment: Kylie - X... with tunes produced by the Freemasons, Bloodshy & Avant, Cathy Dennis, and Calvin Harris you'd expect that it had to have at least something on it worth getting excited about... but no... le sigh...

2:20 pm - reflecting on the music of 2007
just put together a list of some of my favorite moments of the year as far as music events go...

Best DJ sets: Boys Noize @ Studio A in Miami, and again at Pure in Philly... there's no doubt that the year belongs to this man... he dropped the best sets I've seen in the last few YEARS let alone 2007(and his productions are always fucking brilliant)
Best live "PA": Daft Punk @ Keyspan Park -- seeing Daft Punk is truly aone of a kind experience... I get chills listening to the live album they just released remembering the show...
Best live act: Chromeo @ TLA in Philly & Sonar... Chromeo is fucking amazing... 'nuff said...
Best gig: while playing at the 930 club to a near sold out crowd for the first time this year was something of a landmark for me (given the crazy talent I've seen on that stage)... The Upfront Xmas Jump Off last Friday was hands down the party of the year for DC...
best gig I don't remember: Playing the release party for Dubfire's Global Underground CD @ Mynt in Miami...
best non-EDM focused event: True Colors tour at Merriweather... fucking AMAZING seats (thanks [info]tallgirl502)... incredible performances from The Gossip, Rufus Wainright, Erasure and Cindy Lauper (and a hell of a disappointing set from Debbie Harry)

and another amazing event of note: Diplo & Switch @ Sonar in Baltimore... danced my ass off all night for that one...

sweet... noticed that the Sleaze chart on beatport has been listed as a "featured chart" on the electro house genre page...

what's particularly nice about this is that Anna apparently had nothing to do with that and said it would have been the doing of the guy who heads up their label management... and she made a comment about him having "very selective taste"

it'll be interesting to see their reaction to subsequent Sleaze charts over the next few months...

12:39 pm - Sleaze on Beatport
Sleaze is now being featured on Beatport with a monthly chart!

The first one was put up late Friday night/Saturday morning. You can see it properly on beatport here (where it has the Sleaze logo looking all hot)

or you can just look at it in their viral player here:

Go to Beatport.comGet These TracksAdd This Player

We're going to do this once a month now... Each month rotating who makes the selections, with every fourth month being a combined chart!

I'm so glad they're releasing this as a single... hands down my favorite song on the album (which is also a strong contender for best pop album of 2007)

So I could post about all the shit that's been going on in my life over the last month... but that's not happy... Instead... I will give you two things sure to put a smile on your face:

One - Currently a strong contender for my pop album of the year, (although Kylie's "X" will be coming out soon... and we all know how I feel about her), is Dragonette's Galore:

I'm sure I've posted links to the videos for their singles "I Get Around" and "Take It Like A Man" at different points this year... I've been kind of obsessed with everything I could get my hands on by them. Some great remixes have been done of their tunes as well... most notably the Van She Tech remix of "I Get Around," which I played a fair amount earlier this year) and the OCELOT remix of "Competition." (which you'll be hearing a fair amount from me in the near future). Check out more from them on their Myspace page

I highly recommend everyone try to obtain a copy of this album.

Two - Tomorrow night, we are bringing Christopher Just to DC. Christopher Just is the man behind the classic dance anthem, "I'm A Disco Dancer (and a sweet romancer)," as well as last year's monster track, Popper. If you're not familiar, roll over to Beatport and look him up. The show's at Five. Simon will be playing the roof all night... main room will feature Matt from 10-11, myself from 11-12 and Christopher from 12-close... expect nothing but quality tunes all night!

current music: Dragonette - Marvellous - Bonus Track

so yesterday I posted about MANDY in November @ Buzz....

today, another name I've been sitting on for a while has been announced...

BOYS NOIZE!!!!!

December 7th!!!

if a conversation with Scott leads to what I think it does... I think I might know one other name on that lineup as well ;)

(although that would be a DC metro area resident playing before Boys Noize) ;)

the new Buzz party is shaping up to be fucking amazing!!

9:24 pm - the final Save the Beez!!!
Save The Bees has been INSANE so far, and if you are one of the few who have missed out- we are sure you have heard all about it!

This is the final "Save The Bees" episode at RnR Bar & Lounge, but it is by no means the end of this concept, nor the longstanding Buzzlife/Sleaze partnership. As you may already have heard, Buzzlife has found a new home at Fur nightclub, and we plan to continue working together to raise money for research into the disappearing bees and further our goal of bringing the very best music and clubbing experience the world has to offer to you, in our nation's capitol. This is merely the beginning of a new era.

This final night will be the bees knees, once again, we can't wait to see you there!
